Sui Kow Soup & Deep Fried Sui Kow

Sui kow is a type of Chinese dumpling that can be served in soup and deep-fried. Sui kow are made of minced meat, vegetables, and Sui Kow skin (thin layer of dough). Sui Kow skin can be bought pre-packed in wet market.

There are two ways to prepare sui kow:

  • Sui Kow Soup: Chinese dumplings can be served in soup.
  • Deep Fried Sui Kow: Fried dumplings are crispy and delicious.

Sui Kow can be pre-prepared and kept in the fridge. When it’s mealtime, just thrwo it in the soup or deep fried it. Sui Kow can be eaten with white rice or noodles. Sui Kow can also be eaten as a snack.

Ingredients for Sui Kow:

  • Sui Kow wrappers
  • 100g minced pork
  • 2 Chinese mushrooms, finely sliced
  • 1/2 carrot, finely sliced
  • 2 Chinese chives, finely sliced
  • 1 stalks of scallions, finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce

Easy Steps to Make Sui Kow:

  1. Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Place one piece of Sui Kow wrapper on palm.
  3. Spoon 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of the wrapper.
  4. Fold wrapper into a half circle.
  5. Fold pleats around edge of wrapper from one end to the other.
  6. Arrange dumplings on a flat plate.

Steps For Sui Kow Soup:

  1. In a pot, fill water to 2/3 level and bring it to a boil.
  2. Gently drop about few dumplings into the pot (Put one by one to prevent the dumplings from sticking together).
  3. Allow them to simmer for about 3 minutes. Cooked dumplings will float to the top. Remove and drain dumplings.
  4. Place few dumplings in a bowl. Ladle some soup onto dumplings.
  5. Garnish with some sliced green onions and a few drops of sesame oil to the soup.
  6. Serve hot with soy sauce.

Note: If you wish to add vegetables (eg. lettuce/ choy sum), lightly scald the vegetables & add to the bowl.

Steps For Deep Fried Sui Kow

  1. In a wok, fill 2 cups of cooking oil & heat over medium-high.
  2. Gently drop about few dumplings into the pot (Put one by one to prevent the dumplings from sticking together).
  3. Allow them to simmer for about 2- 3 minutes. Remove and drain dumplings on kitchen towel.
  4. Arrange dumplings in a plate.
  5. Serve with tomato/ child sauce.

Note: If you wish to add vegetables (eg. cucumber & tomato), arrange the sliced cucumber & tomato on the sides of the plate.
